Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder

Posted in News

A message from the National Deaf Children’s Society: One of the findings from the most recent CRIDE report for England is that, across England, 2% of deaf children have been identified as having auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD).

Research suggests that around 10% of deaf children may have ANSD – so the CRIDE figures indicate that a number of children with ANSD are not being identified.

Please find attached a presentation from  Vicki Kirwin, Audiology Development Manager, which discusses the issues around identifying ANSD, as well as how such children should be supported. This may be helpful/of interest to heads of services and Teachers of the Deaf?

We would be interested in views of colleagues on this issue.

Here is the presentation.
